Nigerian Military arrest soldiers who brutalised a cripple man in Onitsha for wearing a army uniform in New Market Road, Ontisha, in Anambra State.
According to the statement released by the Nigerian Army yesterday Wednesday, around 11.50pm, it said the two soldiers involved in the case were arrested and have also been charged by their Commander.
Brigadier General Sani Usman, who is the Director, Army Public Relations, said in a statement:
“The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a video clip in which two soldiers were seen maltreating a physically challenged person for allegedly wearing a camouflage shirt.
“We wish to inform the public that the incident took place on Tuesday 7th February 2017, at Onitsha, Anambra State.
“In line with our zero tolerance for acts of indiscipline and unprofessional conducts especially in relation to violation of human rights, we wish to further state that the soldiers involved have since been identified and apprehended.
“They have also been charged for assault by their Commanding Officer. Similarly, troops have been warned to desist from such acts that infringe on human rights and cast serious aspersions on the good image of the Nigerian Army.
“The public should please regard this ugly incident as an isolated case which is not true reflection of the Nigerian Army.”
The two military police were caught beating the cripple man mercilessly for wearing an army uniform and those at the seen decided to make a video of it which went viral on Wednesday through social media platform.
Nigerian on Social media condemned the act and also called for an immediate action by the authorities. Today, Thursday 9th of February, 2016, the Nigerian Military choose to arrest the soldiers who Brutalised the Cripple Man in Onitsha.
On this note, it will be expected of the Nigerian soldiers to begin to work on their action against innocent civilians for it is their duty to protect them and not harm them.
