The reason Mourinho travels twice a day to Portugal has been revealed. The Manchester United boss jetted to Lisbon after[….] his wife, Matinee had underwent surgery on Wednesday.
Mourinho took opon himself to travel 2,100 miles just to be with his sick wife in the morning and return to Manchester in the evening then repeat the same journey again the following day.
Mourinho’s wife went for surgery as a result of complications from the previous one.
According to a member from the family:
“She’s been complaining of pain for some time. Before Christmas she had tests and discovered the problem. The only solution was an operation. She wanted it as soon as possible.”
Mourinho was able to partake on Friday’s training session with his club while on Saturday, he watched his team beat Middlesbrough 2-1.
According to a source:“This Christmas has been very hard but Jose has remained extremely professional and focused on the two things that matter most to him, his family and football. The operation came out of the blue and knocked him sideways.
“He was desperate to see her and support her, so he jetted out as soon as he could. It was gruelling but he didn’t complain.
“All he wants is for her to be back on her feet.”
Jose and wife planned to visit Brazil along with their two kids for the yuletide holiday but had to cancel the trip because of the ailment.
Mourinho met his wife when he was 17 and she was 15. They got wedded in 1989 and have been living peacefully since then. Mourinho keeps giving credit to his wife for all his success. According to him:
“The secret in everything is love. If you are successful in any job, I believe it is because you are in love with that job.
“And if you have a successful family it is because people are in love with each other. Love is the basic.”
