FG Sets to Disburse $322M Sani Abacha’s Loot to Poor Nigerians
Federal Government set to shock Nigerians as they move to disburse $322M, as part of the money returned to Nigeria from Late General Sani Abacha’s account in Switzerland.
A report from DailyTrust, has it that the National Coordinator of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), Nigeria and Special Assistant to the President on Justice Reforms, Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu, revealed the move recently in an interactive session with newsmen.
She added that under a MoU with Switzerland, the Money would be transferred directly into the accounts of the poorest Nigerians for 2years and identification numbers will be given to them from the website being developed by the office of the National Social Investment in collaboration with the World Bank. Mrs. Juliet, assured that everything will be transparent for civil society and the media to monitor.
Mrs. Juliet reveals that despite all attempt by some cables within and outside the government to stop the MoU, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN) and his team are working to make sure that President Buhari’s agenda of ensuring that the $322m was returned for deployment in the social safety nets project, which would make targeted transfers to the poor and vulnerable households.
Mrs. Juliet said;
“The poorest members of the community will be registered online, and before you make any payment, they must have an ID number so that every payment would be tracked. No amount will be paid out without a joint signature between Nigeria and the World Bank and without identification of individuals.”
