Apple Maps Set to Get Better Redesign with More Detailed Information

Apple Maps Set to Get Better Redesign with More Detailed Information. The US Mobile Tech giant have sent their vans to drive round the world so to provide better quality mapping data.

Apple, has been working so hard to improve on the geographical information on their maps since it was highly criticized by many in 2012.

A report from TechCrunch, has it that Apple is working on a “ground up” redesign of Maps that will offer its customers a more detailed information on the maps and also improve on it navigation details.

The report added that Apple has introduced it’s own in-house mapping data on like before when maps usually use data from TomTom and Open Street Maps.

The US tech giant first introduced “base maps” that formed the building blocks of a navigation app, and then will modify the data with high-resolution satellite data.

While speaking with TechCrunch, the Senior Vice President of Apple, Eddy Cue, said;

“We have been working on trying to create what we hope is going to be the best map app in the world, taking it to the next step. That is building all of our own map data from the ground up.”

Apple adopted a method of mapping vans since 2015 to collect higher quality 3D data along with panoramic photography just like that of Google’s Street View.

Apple’s website gives clear details of where their vans are currently getting their data all over the world.

The US tech giant disclosed to TechCrunch that pictures are well-edited for privacy, with details like faces and car license plates blurred out of the imagery.

The company added that other data collection method will enable them to improve live road and traffic information, as well as details on pedestrian routes. It was revealed that the new Maps app will have a vector system to record a user’s direction and speed but it will not store the entire route that someone takes. The idea only collect anonymous data on certain sections of a journey, rather than the entire trip.

Apple Vice President, said;

“We collect data — when we do it — in an anonymous fashion, in subsections of the whole, so we couldn’t even say that there is a person that went from point A to point B.”

TechCrunch in it report said that Apple is using a big collection of human editors to double-check and improve the new mapping data.

Giving an example, it was learnt that they could manually move the location of an address on the map to match up to a building’s real entrance or driveway. The goal is to improve “the last 50 feet” of your navigation journey.”

The Vice President, said;

“We’re going to make sure that we’re taking you to exactly the right place, not a place that might be really close by.”

It was gathered that the new data will appear in a better layout. The new Apple map is expected to have detailed and clearer images for vegetation, waterways, swimming pools and buildings.

Apple also said that the typeface and signage for transit directions will look so real compared to real-life signs.
